OliveGo privacy

OliveGo is an Apple Watch app that shows which of one or two New York City subway or bus rides between two places comes first. It collects no personal data.

PRIVACY

On your watch

  • Location is used on the watch only: to list stops near you while you set up, and to guess which way you are going when you open the app. It is never sent anywhere, and OliveGo does not keep a history of where you have been.
  • Your two places and rides (their names, the lines and stops you chose) are stored only on your watch. Deleting the app deletes them.

What leaves your watch

To show arrival times, the watch asks OliveGo’s server for the next vehicles on your rides. The request contains only public MTA identifiers — for example “subway route 6, from stop 626S to 635S” — and nothing else: no location, no place names, no account, no device or advertising identifier.

The server fetches those times from the MTA and replies. It does not log requests, does not store which stops were asked about beyond a cache of MTA data that lasts seconds, and has no way to tell users apart. Like any internet service, the network providers that carry the request see your IP address in order to deliver it; OliveGo does not record it.

What OliveGo does not have

No accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking, crash-reporting or third-party code. Nothing is shared with or sold to anyone.

Transit data

Arrival times and stop information come from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s public data feeds. OliveGo is not affiliated with or endorsed by the MTA.
